New York Attorneys Clients Charter
New York Lawyers and New York Attorneys Charges are governed by rules which must be follwed.
There are general requirements which must be met by New York Lawyers and New York Attorneys and also DWI Lawyers
All Lawyers in New York duty bound to display a statement of rights in his or her office where it is visible to clients
Broadly speaking it gives clients a clear picture of what they might anticipate from their lawyer
1. You should be treated couteously and with respect and consideration always by your legal representative and the other attorneys and people in your attorneys office.
2. You are entitled to a lawyer who is qualified to deal with your circumstances competently and diligently, in accordance with the highest possible of the profession. If you are not happy with how your matter is being run, you have the right to leave from the attorney-client relationship at any time (court sanction may be required in some cases and your lawyer may have a claim against you for the cost of services donefor you up to the time of discharge).
3. You are entitled to your lawyers independent judgement and undivided loyalty which must not be affected by conflicts of interest.
4. You are entitled to be billed a reasonable fee and to have your lawyer outline at the beginning outset how the fee will be calculated and the manner and frequency of billing. You are entitled to ask for and receive a written itemized bill from your lawyer at reasonable intervals. You may refuse to enter into any fee arrangement that you do not like. In the event of a fee dispute, you might be able to seek arbitration: your lawyer will provide you with the necessary information regarding arbitration in case of a fee dispute, or upon being asked.
5. You are entitled to have your queries and concerns answered in a prompt manner and to have your phone returned swiftly.
6. You should be kept informed as to the process of your case and to request and receive copies of documents. You are entitled to enough information to allow you to participate to a meaningful extent in the progress of your case.
7. You are entitled to have your reasonable aims respected by your lawyer or attorney, including whether or not to settle your case (court approval of a settlement is required in some matters).
8. You have the right to have privacy in your dealings with your lawyer and to have your secrets and confidences kept to the extent permitted by law.
